If your dog has ever had an injury or a surgery, you are all too familiar with the dreaded Elizabethan collar.

Used to prevent dogs from licking or biting at a wound so that it can heal properly, these devices are very practical, at least from a human’s perspective.

To a dog? “The cone falls into the ‘items that should be banished to the depths of hell’ category,” writes photographer Ty Foster, who also notes that wearing the cone makes “a normal life infuriating and just down right embarrassing” to a dog.

Foster was inspired to capture this emotion in a photo series he calls Timeout.
